The waters may have receded but Uttarakhand is still suffering. They say music can ease the pain and make lives better, and believing in its power MTV ACT, the pro social platform by MTV India, joined hands with YOU for Uttarakhand initiative to organise a relief concert that brought acclaimed music artists under one roof to engage and encourage the youth to do their bit for the flood victims.
Singing for the cause, the duo of Clinton Cerejo and Sonu Kakkar were in the Capital recently, along with Bianca Gomes, Dhruv Visvanath, Adi and Suhail, Half Step Down and Pragnya Wakhlu, to perform at blueFROG.
Excerpts from a conversation with the duo:
How will funds be raised through this concert? Is there any other body associated with this cause?
Clinton: YOU for Uttarakhand initiative uses the uniting power of music and 75 per cent of the proceeds from this concert including the ticket sales and other activities will be donated to their NGO partner, Save the Children. Save the Children is also associated with this and is working to support those affected by the flash floods.
How does it feel to be a part of this event? Is this the first concert of its kind for you?
Sonu: I am feeling great to have joined this MTV act because every single contribution makes a huge difference for those whose lives were destroyed, and being artists we are trying to gather as much funds as we can by singing songs in such relief concerts. I have sung in many concerts for noble causes, but yes, this concert is the first of its kind and I wish the country remains safe in future from such disasters.
How do you think an individual can come forward to help ease the suffering at his/her own level?
Sonu: Everyone should think how they can contribute as per their capacity. Anyone unable to attend the concert can act by donating. Rich people of the society should directly donate to the NGO “Save the Children” because they will run no loss by doing so and simultaneously it would be a great help for the victims.
