Swathi Srikrishna of Chennai gave a splendid vocal concert for Swarajhari sabha of Vijayawada at Sri Sivaramakrishna Kshetram. Swathi is a disciple of late violinist-scholar N.Ch. Krishnamacharyulu. Swathi started with a crisp varnam in Sahana. A seldom-heard composition of Muthaiah Bhagavatar in Mohana Kalyanifollowed. After singing Narayana , a Purandara Das composition, she took up Pantuvarali as a sub main item.
Following a gripping and elaborate alapana, Swathi rendered Thyagaraja's Narada muni vedale complimenting the kirtana with fine niraval and swaras. Muripemu galige in Mukhari also stood as a highlight in the concert. For the main item, Swathi delivered a superb alapana of Mohana preceding Thyagaraja's Evarura in Misrachapu. Fluent raga phrases, bhava-laden niraval and intelligently woven kalpana swaras enriched the item. Towards the close of the concert, Swathi Srikrishna rendered soulfully the Annamacharya kirtana Paluku tenela talli in Abheri, an abhang and a sparkling thillana in Revathi.
Swathi was provided support by B.V. Durga Bhavani on violin, K. Sai Giridhar on mridangam and M. Hari Babu on ghatam. Bhavani presented sweet versions of Pantuvarali and Mohana. The tani played Sai Giridhar and Hari Babu was a delightful rhythmic treat.
