M. Jayachandran on composing a Hindi song for Blessy’s Kalimannu

Winner of several Kerala State films awards, music director M. Jayanchandran has scored yet another first in his impressive repertoire by composing a song in Hindi for Blessy’s new movie Kalimannu.

“It is an item number featuring Bollywood actor Suneil Shetty and Swetha Menon. Sung by Sonu Kakkar and Sukhwinder Singh, the lyrics have been written by Manoj Yadav. I am quite happy with the results of the song,” says Jayachandran. Admitting he has high expectations for the eight numbers he has composed for the film, Jayachandran says what’s exceptional about these numbers is that he has chosen the best of each genre to compose these songs. “Every song has a mood, a situation and a different kind of score,” he adds.

Shreya Ghoshal, Hariharan, Janaki Iyer, Vijay Yesudas, Suchitra and Sudeep Kumar have also sung in the movie under his baton. The Malayalam lyrics were composed by none other than O.N.V. Kurup.

Of all the songs in the film, Jayachandran’s favourite is a lullaby rendered by Mridula Warrier, participant and winner of several music-based reality shows. “Usually all lullabies are featured on a mother and child. But in Kalimannu, it is picturised on a mother-to-be who is singing to her unborn child. I found the entire concept so beautiful. It has been composed and sung with a great deal of sincerity,” says Jayachandran.

The same trio of Blessy-ONV Kurup-Jayachandran had gifted the award-winning songs of Prayanam too. As Jayachandran’s tunes in to Hindi, it should lead to Bollywood too.
