VIJAYAWADA: As part of the weekend cultural programmes instituted by the A.P. Bhasha Samskritika Sangham and the G.V.R. Government College of Music and Dance, Vijayawada, an excellent vocal concert by Malladi brothers Sriram Prasad and Ravikumar was arranged at the college premises. The duo started the concert with Kanada varnam and followed it with Ee paniko janminchitinani , a rare Thyagaraja composition. Ravikumar presented a fine alapana of Begada before singing Nadopasana . The brothers sport a large repertoire and are blessed with fine vocal culture.

Dharmavathi was also delineated by Ravikumar in a sumptuous manner preceding the kirtana Bhajanaseyarada in which bhava-filled neraval and crisp kalpana swaras were rendered by both Sriram Prasad and Ravikumar alternatively. The brothers next sang Urake kalguna of Thyagaraja in Sahana.

The most impressive item in the concert was Thyagaraja’s Enati Nomu Phalamo in Bhairavi. The superb raga delineation was equally shared by the brothers who vied with each other in bringing out the rich bhava of the raga. The neraval and swaras were also shared by them. The whole item was a sumptuous treat. The effect of the concert was elevated by the excellent support on the violin by V. Rajiv , on the mridangam by B.V.S. Prasad and K. Ramakrishna on ghatam. Towards the close of the concert the duo sang the tarangam Brindavana Madhuna , followed by Jagadodharana (Kafi) and Adi Deva an Annamayya kirtana in Sindubhairavi.
