Lalgudi – 80, celebrating the journey of a legend

Lalgudi G. Jayaraman,one of the living legends of Carnatic music known throughout the world for his soul-stirring performances in Carnatic music and his mesmerising music, turns 80 this year. A two-day event honouring his yeomen service and contribution to music is scheduled this month. The event will be followed by ‘Arpanam’ — jugalbandi concerts in November 2010 in Chennai and Bangalore, between Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi on the violin and Murad Ali on the Sarangi.

As part of the commemoration function, an effort has been made towards preserving and archiving the life, journey and immense contributions of the legend in the form of CD/DVD releases and the screening of a documentary film on Lalgudi Jayaraman.

The two day event is to be held at The Music Academy, Chennai.

Event Highlights on 18 and 19 September

September 18

6:00 p.m. onwards

Releasing of the CD “Raga Rasa” Composed by Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan and Lalagudi Vijayalakshmi, by His Excellency, The Governor of Tamilnadu.

Excerpts from the Biography ofLalgudi Jayaraman to be presented

The CD will be received & key note address will be delivered by Hon’ble Member of Parliament Kanimozhi.

Special address by Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna and Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam.

A live orchestral presentation comprising 45 artiste on stage will be presenting compositions of the Maestro Lalgudi Jayaraman and, from the CD – ‘Raga Rasa’
