The multi-talented Ramona Arena on her projects
Television presenter, singer, lyricist, composer, writer and actor Ramona Arena is teaming up once again with DJ and producer Anish Sood for ‘Open Your World Tour’ which will see them performing their eclectic compositions nationwide. Ramona, who was on a hiatus until recently, answered questions about current and future projects. Excerpts:
You are teaming up with Anish Sood once again for your tour after Miss Nine’s ‘Wanna Be Your Only Love’. What brought about the collaboration this time around?
Our first spree together worked well and when a label as reputed as Miss Nine invited us again, it was something we could not turn down. Our first stood number four on itunes India dance charts on the day of launch and that proved to be a huge encouragement. Anish told me recently that there was something he had worked on and wanted me to hear it and see if it was inspiring. The positivity of the lyrics and the happy melody of ‘Hello World’ was captivating. I penned my lyrics and composed the vocal melody then and Anish liked it so much that he accepted it without any changes. That is how ‘Hello World’ was born.
You are back into entertainment and music after a hiatus. What kept you away?
I was on a personal journey all that while. I was away to Switzerland, exploring the place, working in restaurants, introspecting and basically satiating my travel obsession. Those who know me would vouch for me being ready with my bags packed at the drop of a hat. My friends call me a gypsy.
What is it that you think pulls you back towards the world of entertainment?
Music has always been my passion; my world. It is the reason why MTV happened and my associations with radio and theatre have also been musical. Recording my own album had always been a dream and I grew up idolizing Madonna. That is probably the reason why I end up returning to the world of music and entertainment.
What future projects are in store?
Well, I am at present working on a solo project as well as working on collaborations with various artists, DJs and producers across the globe. I have been strictly advised against revealing more. Give it a couple of months and you would know… you will not see me turning into a DJ as I don’t feel it is my calling. It requires quite some skills, time and effort which I cannot bring to the table as of now.
