This was a typical case of came, saw and conquered! K. Bharat Sundar enthralled his audience at one go with captivating ragas, beautiful rendition and brilliant virtuosity. But for the varnam where he did not scale the upper octave as is the custom, the Asaveri kriti Janaki ramana… with its racy neraval and swarakalpana and Mari vere dikkevaru… in Latangi, which went in quick succession with a lack of warmth, the rest of the concert was an antithesis that oozed emotion, clarity and richness in tone and tenor, with immeasurable appeal and reach. After his Jayantasena with its lovely alapana, there was no looking back for Bharat Sundar.
He showered the choicest kritis, one outdoing the other.The vocalist was a sure shot to success by the time he wound his way with the Jayantasena. Popular numbers like Nee dayarada Rama… (Vasanta Bhairavi-roopaka) and Brochevarevaru ra ninu vina… in Khamas with its chitta swaram sung in both the octaves were melodic to the core.
The extensive alapana to Reetigowla and the lovely composition he chose to render in Sarasijana lochani… with its mind-boggling neraval to Tamasamu seyakane brovumu janani was superb. However, he wound the center-piece with a brisk show of manodharma with optimum swarakalpana. The cadence was something to write home about. The violin by Komanduri VenkataKrishna was a fitting follow up at all times. Jayabhaskar's tani was just up to the mark.
A javali later, came the famous Jagadhodharana… in Kapi. The sweetness with which he sung this Purandharadasa keertana had to heard to be believed. It was enchanting to the core. A few pieces recited to different ragas like Dhanyasi and Hamir Kalyani rounded off the fruitful evening of music at Srimad Andavan Ashramam under the aegis of Sharada Cultural Trust.
