The Chidambaram Pillai College for Women, Mannachanallur near Tiruchi, in association with the Saratha Iraineri Mandram and Poompuhar-based Uzhavaram, organised a two-day conference, ‘Thirumanthiram’, the tenth Thirumurai in the Tamil Saivaite Panniru Thirumurai.

It has more than 3,000 verses and is a way of life defined by Thirumoolar. M. Sivachidambaram, former professor, inaugurated the conference. In his address, he gave a summary of this book and explained the philosophy preached by the saint poet. He dwelt on various chapters codified by Thirumoolar and said every chapter explains the philosophy of Saiva Siddhantham and had eternal relevance.

Rajasekaran, founder chairman, Uzhavaram, Poompuhar, delivered the presidential address.

The two-day conference was marked by lectures on various topics in Thirumanthiram by Tamil scholars and religious leaders. They urged the people to utilise life for self-realisation. Guru Sivaraja Swamigal of Thiruvannamalai, speaking at the valediction, listed out the famous sayings for life codified in Thirumanthiram and urged the students to practice it in their life.

Inter-collegiate and inter school oratorical and essay writing competitions were held as part of the celebrations. Sri Sivaraja Swamigal gave away the prizes to the winners.

K. Sekar, principal, A. Loganathan, managing trustee of the college, and N. Damodharan, professor-Tamil, offered felicitations.
