The Tala Vadya Kacheri saw an ensemble of mridangam and vocals accompanied by a host of instruments.

Marking Ugadi celebrations, Vigjnana Samithi, joined by major sabhas in the city, organized at Anandnagar Community Hall a musical ensemble called ‘Tala Vadya Kacheri’, led by noted mridangam artiste DSR Murthy accompanied by vocalists N.Ch.Parthasarathy, Shyam Kumar and Shruti (D.S.R.Murthy’s daughter); clarinet player K.Atchi Babu, Dinakar on violin, A.Ramamohan Rao on flute, P.V.Ramana Murthy on ghatam and Radha Padmaja on morsing. It was a thematic presentation. Shyam Kumar also played kanjeera, where it needed.

The ensemble opened with Ganesha Sthuti Srigananatham Bhajare in Esamanohari, set to Rupaka talam. This was followed by a Slokam in Revathi ragam leading to Ganesha Pancharatnam Muda karaarta Modakam ending with Sankaracharya Devi Sthuti Aiyigiri Nandini . Dudukugala , a Pancharatna kirtana of Thyagaraja in Gowla was presented later. . They then played Valmiki Palikina penned by Aripirala Viswam in Kapi, rendered by vocalist Shruti. There was Krishna Sabdam in Gambhiranata that was coupled with Swagatham Krishna of Oothukadu Venkata Subbaiyer in Mohanavasantam.

The ensemble brought out a surprise composition — D.S.R.Murthy’s ‘Pallavi’ in Hamsanandi set to adi talam — its long pallavi line ran as ‘Govinda Akhila Rakshaka Sangeetalaya Priyakara, Abishta Varapradayakara Sree, Mamu Rakshimpu’ adding Namo Namo Namo to the line. The ragamalika structure was shared by the instrumentalists - violinist playing Lalitha, Clarinet player presenting Charukesi, Parthasarathy rendering Shanmukhapriya, again clarinet player presenting Kapi, violinist taking Subhapantuvarali, Sindhubhairavi and Shyamkumar rendering Amruthavarshini. D.S.R.Murthy on mridangam, Ramanamurthy on ghatam, Shyam kumar on kanjeera, Radha Padmaja on morsing presented tani avarthanam.

The Tarangam Bruhi mukundeti was followed by Alaipayuthe Kanna in Kapi. The concert ended with a Lalgudi's Tillana in Mohanakalyani and a western note with Sankarabharanam base presented by violinist Dinakar.
