Mridangam artiste Patri Satish Kumar will present a drum festival in Chennai between August 30 and September 1.

In an attempt to project the importance, beauty and diversity of percussion instruments, artistes in the past have participated in tala vadya kutcheris where often, melodic instruments were used to enhance rhythmic ideas. “However, while there is no concert without percussion, there is no concert for percussion,” says Patri Satish Kumar and adds that this was the main motivation behind organising such an event.

The festival will provide an opportunity for the audience to listen to percussion artistes explain their compositions while performing.
