Jayasree’s line-up included kritis of well-known composers.
Tiruvaiyaru Jayasree presented a vocal concert under the auspices of the Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Tiruchi Kendra. Organised as a part of the platinum jubilee celebrations, the recital was held at the Tamil Sangam premises, Tiruchi, recently. Jayasree was accompanied by T. Vasantha on the violin, Tiruchi Rengarajan on the mridangam, Alathur Raja Ganesh on the ganjira. This is one of the monthly events of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, and the event was co-sponsored by the Corporation Bank.
Jayasree commenced her concert with ‘Sri Vathapi Ganapathiye’ by Papanasam Sivan in Sahana ragam, Adi talam. This was followed by Tyagaraja’s ‘Sobillu Jahan,’ in Mohanam, Rupaka talam, Dikshitar’s ‘Prasanna Venkateswaram’ in Vasantha Bhairavi, Tisra Triputa talam and GNB’s ‘Ranjani Niranjani’ in Ranjani ragam, Adi talam.
The line-up of kritis also included ‘Poomelanandha Bhairavi’ of Chidambara Bharathi in Bhairavi set to Adi talam, ‘Manasu Swadhina’ of Tyagaraja, ‘Manadhirku’ by Thanjavur Sankara Iyer in Sindhu Bhairavi, adi talam, ‘Dasara’ of Purandaradasa in Rakesri ragam - adi talam, and ‘Enna Thavam’ of Oothukadu Venkata Subbaiyar in Khamas - adi talam. The concert concluded with a tillana by Lalgudi V. Jayaraman in Brindhavani ragam set to adi talam.
Rengarajan, regional development manager, City Union Bank, was the chief guest. T.V. Murali, secretary of the Bhavan, and Mohan, its patron, highlighted the various activities of the Tiruchi Kendra of the Bhavan.
