Four maestros come together for The Shakti Foundation annual fundraiser performance. This year's concert, titled ‘Aurjitya' (meaning energy and vigour), features Mandolin U. Shrinivas, V. Selvaganesh (kanjira), Jonas Hellborg (bass guitarist) and Steve Smith (percussion).
The event, to be held on February 19 at The Music Academy, will seek to sensitise the audience and make them more aware about the physically challenged. Shrinivas will be accompanied by Selvaganesh — both musicians are members of The Remember Shakti Group. Jonas Hellborg is a Swedish bass virtuoso known for his innovative bass playing that incorporates choral, percussive and melodic approaches. Steve Smith is renowned for his work on the drums.
Since its inception in 1991, The Shakti Foundation has been working towards creating a barrier-free environment for the physically challenged. Proceeds from the show will be directed towards medicare equipments for the rural underprivileged. This year's concert is the 20th successive show. Accommodating special needs
The mission of The Shakti Foundation is not only noble but, also practical for those who are physically challenged and living in a society that does little to accommodate their needs. Someone must take action in order to make the world a better place for them, and The Shakti Foundation has taken on that challenge. I am honoured and excited to be making music with some of the world's greatest artistes, look forward to a wonderful event.

An inspiration
It gives me great pleasure to be a part of this concert-for-a-cause. I hope Aurjitya can accelerate the support of philanthropists across the world towards the Foundation. The concert is an inspiration, and a special one at that, as I'll get to share the stage with extremely talented artistes.

Movement of change
As humans, we have to strive for inclusion, and create environments where all people can take part on their own terms. That way, The Shakti Foundation is an important contributor to the movement of change that is paving the way for a brighter future and dignified present for so many. My fellow musicians and I are but humble servants of this greater cause.

Striking a chord
I've been playing for The Shakti Foundation since 2000, and it's been an incredible experience. As always, I feel immensely honoured to play. And, I am touched by the causes the Foundation espouses. I usually compose new pieces for The Shakti Foundation concert, and this time's no different. I want to do something unusual, and am working on it. Since I'm playing with great musicians, I'm working on pieces that suit their calibre.
