A senior executive of an event management company, along with three of his team members, has been arrested on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust in connection with the cancellation of the Metallica concert in neighbouring Gurgaon on Friday.
“A first information report was lodged against the organisers at the Sector 29 police station following a spectator's complaint. Acting on the complaint, four members of the DNA Entertainment Network were arrested late Friday night. The matter is under investigation,” said Alok Kumar Mittal, Joint Commissioner (Gurgaon) .
The arrested are DNA Entertainment Network general manager Rajesh Chandwani, assistant managers Savio Falero and Umesh and Ashok Singh. They were produced before a local court on Saturday and remanded in police custody for six days.
Just a few hours before the band's scheduled performance at Leisure Valley , the organisers announced a postponement due to “technical problems” and later called off the event.
Following the cancellation, a large number of spectators climbed on the stage and damaged equipment.
Safety factor
In a statement released on their site late on Friday , Metallica cited fans' safety for the postponement of the show and permit issues for the subsequent cancellation.
“We were notified that there was a serious question as to whether the show could proceed with regard to the safety of the audience…Once we, along with DNA, the promoters of the show, determined that there was a failure of a security barricade in front of the stage that could not be adequately repaired, the promoter reluctantly announced the postponement of the show until Saturday. Unfortunately, at such short notice the promoters were unable to secure a permit for a show on Saturday. Therefore, DNA announced that we would not be able to play in Delhi.”
