In a bid to combat piracy, the music of Sanjay Dutt-Akshay Kumar starrer underwater thriller, Blue, has been launched on pen drives and memory chips.

Oscar-winner A R Rahman, who has given the music to the film, is thrilled that his latest album is on a memory chip.

“This is fantastic. What one must ensure is that the sound is of the highest quality,” Rahman said.

“Anything new is exciting for people and those, who believe in owning legitimate music, would be excited by this product,” said the music director.

“It is also a gate opener for future expansions, because right now the music is going to have MP3 quality and then in future it could have more high quality WAV files like 96 k, 24 bit and people will definitely enjoy probably four times better than a CD quality of music. So this is a great starting point,” he added.

This initiative to release the music of the film on the digital platform first is being seen by the Indian music industry as a major step towards combating piracy and illegal downloads, said Bhushan Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, T-Series.

“The digital platform has become a widespread medium to consume entertainment. India too is seeing a rapid growth of mobile phone and Internet users. Amongst the many benefits of the digital music launch, the most significant one for us as a music label is a big step towards giving consumers legitimate content and curbing piracy of our content,” Kumar said.
