After a gap of almost three years, DJ Aqeel is back with his new album, “Forever 2”, brought out by Universal Music. The popular singer and composer who calls himself a big fan of Honey Singh says he has been busy setting up nightclubs, but with this album he is back to making the kind of music that has had his fans grooving for over a decade now. What’s more, he promises another one by next Valentine’s Day. A chat with the versatile DJ:

What kept you from bringing out an album for three years?

I have opened up new night clubs in Mumbai, Delhi and Goa. I was busy setting them up. My routine is jam packed. I was planning to do an album for a long time and my friends also kept telling me to come up with something as it had been a long time, so finally I have returned.

What would do you say think is special about in this album which will catch up with the audience?

The USP of this album is the band — Indian House Mafia. I have made it with my friends Sukhbir and Suketu. The album has really nice and original tracks done by the three of us. The video in this album is really amazing. Moreover its Punjabi music with rap and it is cool. I am sure people will love it.

How do you select your songs?

This is the toughest thing to do. The song should appeal to you and go with your style. You never know what people will like. Songs should not only set records but stay with listeners.

After three years, this must be a special album for you…Coming back with an album after 3 years, It would be a special one for you ?

Every album is special to me, but yes, this one is very special because for the first time I have acted in a video. The video is about a diamond robbery and it was shot in 45 locations. It includes poolside party, a car chase and many other things.

What is next on your agenda are you planning after this?

We are planning to come up with a sequel to this album. It will have only two or three songs and will release by February 14 next year. Apart from this I have done a track for Amisha Patel’s upcoming movie.
