The songs of Lata Mangeshkar are so entrenched in the country’s musical consciousness that they pose a serious challenge to the interpreter. How does one make them fresh and alive again while possessing a different voice? Sadhana Sargam takes up this challenge in a concert with Chetan Ram and singers who were inspired by the legend and also who have performed with her before. They will pay tribute to Lata Mangeshkar by focusing on her most popular songs and the ones that made the most impact on people.
Weaving into the concert like a counterpoint is the noted voice-over artist Harish Bhimani, who has authored In Search of Lata Mangeshkar, a biography of sorts of the singer. He will anchor the show and provide anecdotes about different aspects of Lata Mangeshkar’s career. He will also provide a glimpse into the insurmountable highs she has attained in her singing career.
The concept is a unique one, as this format has never been attempted before. The concert will last around two-and-a-half hours.
