Highlights at Bharat Kalachar

The month-long Margazhi Mahotsav begins on December 10

Bharat Kalachar presents the 23rd anniversary and 24th Margazhi Mahotsav from December 10, 2010, to January 9, 2011, at Sri YGP Auditorium, 17, Thirumalai Road, T. Nagar. Mr. E.S.L. Narasimhan, Governor of Andhra Pradesh, will inaugurate. Some highlights this year are as follows:

On December 11, 6.45 p.m., Bijjayini Sathpathy and Surupa of Nrithyagram will present an Odissi recital. On December 12, 7.15 p.m., a lec-dem on the parallels between Western Classical and Carnatic music will be presented by Anil Srinivasan (piano) and Navin Iyer (flute).

On December 15, 6 p.m., it will be a nostalgic evening titled ‘Ragas and Rafi' where Anil Bajpai and Neelima Gokhale will sing light classical film songs of Mohammed Rafi. December 18, 6.45 p.m., the Dhananjayans' Bharatakalanjali will present an all-male production, Narthaka-Narthanam.

On December 19, 10.30 a.m., Vyjayanthimala Bali will give a lec-dem on the inimitable D.K. Pattammal, and at 6.45 p.m., watch out for an Odissi recital by Sonal Mansingh.

Jai Sri Krishna

On December 24, 7 p.m., Deepika Potarazu (USA) will present ‘Rasaanubhavam' in Kuchipudi. December 25, 6.45 p.m., Padma Subrahmanyam's latest production, ‘Jai Sri Krishna', based on the composition of Oothukadu Venkata Kavi, will be staged. Revathi Ramachandran and group will stage ‘Daayinee' on December 27, 6.45 p.m.

On December 28, 6.45 p.m., Chitra Visveswaran's Chidambaram Dance Company presents 'Shakti Thrayee'.

December 29, 6.45 p.m., will see Tamil Arasan Theatre's the mythological play ‘Sri Narasimhar' by K.P. Arivanandam.

Disciples of Krishnakumari Narendran will present ‘Muthamizh Muzhakkam' on January 1, 2011, at 6.45 p.m. On January 2, 2011, 6.45 p.m., ‘Mahadevam Mahasenam Bhaje', a nrithya natakam, will be presented by students of Anitha Guha. ‘Thedi Kandu Kondain (In Search I Found)' will be presented by Meenakshi Chitharanjan on January 3, 7.30 p.m.

Zakir Hussain will present his latest production, ‘Sri Ranga Nayakam' on January 4, 7.30 p.m.

On January 7, 7.30 p.m., Rama Vaidyanathan will stage ‘Akhilam Maduram' (based on the symbolism of Mathura and Brindavan).

Season tickets for all the 31 days will be priced Rs. 7,500 while tickets are available daily for Rs.500, Rs.300, Rs.200 and Rs.100. For other details, call 28343045 /42024304.
