Vidwan Modumudi Sudhakar, a reputed vidwan and senior composer in Vijayawada Akshvani gave a very educative and enlightening lecture demonstration for Swara Tarangini sabha at Sri Sringeri Mahapeetha Paripalitha Sivaramakrishna Kshetram. Though the lively and interesting lec-dem was meant mainly for learners of classical Carnatic music, it is unfortunate to find very less number of student learners in the audience who really need the tips Sudhakar gave in his fine lec-dem.

Sudhakar’s demonstration began after a brief introductory speech by Ganduri Srinivasa Murthy, violinist and president of Swara Tarangini. Sudhakar dealt in detail with many useful tips and methods of practice demonstrating every part singing himself explicitly. Sudhakar received intense musical training from Vidushi G.V.Ramakumari and veteran violin vidwan Annavarapu Ramaswamy. He set tunes for many Dasa kirtana and produced CDs which have become very popular. He also composed music for a very large number of musical plays in Akashvani.

After briefly narrating the story of Sri Purandara Dasa, Sudhakar went on to explain simple tips to develop manodharmam aspects like ragalapana, neraval, swarakalpana and finally pallavi singing. Sudhakars’s presentation was in simple terms but very explicit and was admired by the audience who felt that more lecture demonstrations like this would benefit the learners a lot.
