Powerful voice and pure traditional approach marked the sumptuous vocal concert of Lakshmi Rajagopalan, a well known singer from Mumbai. She received her initial training from her parents and advanced training from T.R. Balamani. An A-Grade artiste of Akashvani and Doordarshan, Lakshmi Rajagopalan has recorded many C.D’s and also received the prestigious M.S. Subbalakshmi Memorial Award in 2008 from Sri Shanmukhananda Sabha of Mumbai.
Lakshmi Rajagopalan’s music was robust and showed her ample command over all the manodharma aspects. Starting with Viriboni (Bhairavi) varam, she next rendered Mahaganapathim in Nata, finishing it with extensive kalpana swaras. Paradevathe in Dhanyasi was a masterpiece served with bhava rich alapana and well calculated swaras. B.V. Durgabhavani, a experienced violinist and a staff artist of Vijayawada Akashvani gave the vocalist shadow like support. Her solo version of Dhanyasi was superb. P.S. Phalgun and M. Haribabu were efficient on mridangam and ghatam respectively. Their tani was a superb essay in musical mathematics.
