The temple for Sri Visalakshi Samedha Sri Kailasanatha Swami, at Perumagalam, in Sengalipuram, is a shambles. Constructed during the time of the early Chola kings, it has an imposing Siva Lingam, a proportionately huge Avudayar, and a refreshing pond. It is said that Gautama Rishi prayed to the lord here, after bathing in the pond. And a dip in the waters, devotees believe, will cleanse them of their sins. The shrines for Lord Ganapathy and Nandikeswara at the temple are fine examples of Chola architecture.
Though funds aren’t forthcoming the priest and the people of the village take care of the oru kala puja. Devotees are requested to contribute for the renovation of the garbagraham, the prakaaram and the doors of the temple.
