The 61st anniversary of Sri Padagachery Ramalinga Swamigal (1876-1949) will be observed with annadhanam at Padagachery near Kumbakonam, on August 12. Born in Coimbatore the saint landed in the village, located between Valangaiman and Needamangalam, in 1890. Realising that he was no ordinary person, the villagers gave him shelter and he became their friend, philosopher and guide. He stayed on to renovate old temples and built new ones with the aid of philanthropists. He was known for feeding the poor and the animals.
An ancient Siva temple and a Vishnu temple, both hitherto in thatched premises, in Padagacheri are being renovated. For details contact 9443075837.
