Mahendramangalam, a village on the Tiruchi-Thottiyam road, near Musiri town is not new to the readers of these columns. A temple for Chandramouliswara is taking shape there as visualised by Paramacharya, but construction is making slow progress for lack of funds.
Periyava observed Chaturmasya Vratam for three years here. During one of his visits in 1960-61, he saw a lingam dug out from the earth, lying in a state of neglect. It was then shifted to a temporary abode and he made arrangements for the conduct of pujas. He installed the idol of Adi Sankara on the banks of River Cauvery and used to meditate regularly at this shrine, after his anushtanam.
With the objective of building a temple for the lingam, that dates back to 1,500 years, Sri Kamakoti Seva Samithi Trust was formed and construction of Sri Tirupurasundari samedha Sri Chandramouleeswarar temple and pancha koshtam of other deities, estimated at Rs.50 lakhs, began towards the end of 2010.
