Ilangathir 2013, a cultural festival held at South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur, from August 12 to 14 provided an opportunity for college students to exhibit their talent.
Organised by Kalai Aayam Foundation, the festival was aimed at creating awareness about our traditional arts and promoting young artists.
Nearly 500 students from various colleges took part in the three-day event, which showcased a variety including Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music, folk songs and dances and drama.
The winners
The Excellence Awards were given to 34 students for Best Performance. The Best Institution Award went to the Government Music College, Thiruvaiyaru. The Multi-Talented Award was given to K. Priyanka, of Tamil University, Thanjavur.
Dr. E.N. Sajith, director, South Zone Cultural Centre, R. Muthu, assistant director, Department of Art and Culture, Tamil Nadu, S. Babaji Rajah Bhonsle, senior Prince of Thanjavur and chairman of Thanjavur chapter of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and R. Kasturirangan, assistant general manager, State Bank of India, which sponsored the programme, took part in the festival.
Students from Central University of Tamil Nadu, Tiruvarur, staged an English drama.
