Know your temples

Friends of DakshinaChitra organises a series of talks on temple festivals. This series is an attempt to enlighten us on the rituals and traditions followed in temples. The lectures will be held on October 23 and 29, Gandhinagar Club, Adyar, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Participation fee is Rs. 500. On October 23, Anandhi, guide and tourism resource person, will give a talk on Kapaleeswara Temple of Mylapore, and the annual festival of saints 'Aruvathimoovar'. This will be followed by a talk by historian Chitra Madhavan on Parthasarathy Temple in Triplicane. She will also give a description of the 'Brahmotsavam' in Vishnu temples. On October 29, Anandhi will give a lecture on the Siva temple in Chidambaram and the annual 'Ardra' festival. Chitra Madhavan will hold a talk on the Srirangam temple. She will also describe the festival of 'Vaikunta Ekadasi'. For registration, call 98402-15413 and 98843-63550.
