Renovation started in 2002 at the Sri Kothandaramaswamy temple in Arakkonam, Vellore taluk, but dearth of funds has slowed down progress. Samprokshanam has been fixed for May 23 with work far from complete. Located in Thiamugaseri, also called Iyyanpettai village, six km from Kaveripakkam on the Kaveripakkam-Sholingur road, the presiding deity at this temple actually is Sri Paramapadanathar, seated on Adisesha, flanked by Sridevi and Bhoodevi.
There are separate shrines for Kanakavalli Thayar, Sri Kothandaramar and Garudan. Moved by the dilapidated condition of the 300-year old temple, devotees decided to take up renovation and formed the Sri Kothandaramaswamy Temple Bhakta Jana Sabha with Sri U.Ve. Srinivasa Ramanujachariar, Jeer of Tirukkovilur and Hereditary Trustee of Sri Trivikramaswamy Temple Devasthanam, and T. Rangarajan, Agent, Sri Trivikramaswamy temple Devasthanam, as advisors.
Balalayam was performed in August 2002. For lack of funds renovation was done in phases and work worth Rs. 16 lakhs has been done. About Rs. 10 lakhs is needed to complete the reconstruction, which includes the kitchen, a store room, the compound wall, etc., apart from meeting the consecration expenses. Besides, the Trust has to provide for the salaries of qualified priest and an attendant and the conduct of daily puja.
Contributions in the form of cheque and demand draft may be sent to A. Kannan, Honorary Secretary and Treasurer, Sri Kothandaramaswamy Temple Bhakta Jana Sabha, ‘Suchindram,’ 99/32, Chitlapakkam, Second Main Road, Tambaram Sanatorium, Chennai 600047. Phone 914422237536.
