Pulavarnatham (Pulaivananatham) is a village situated one km from the guru temple in Alangudi. It is said that this was the original village where the people of Alangudi lived when it was only a forest. There existed a temple for Arulmigu Kariamanika perumal, which was in a dilapidated state with the idol of the Lord in mutilated condition. The Santhana Ramaswamy Kainkarya Sabha, Needamangalam, undertook the renovation of the temple. The renovation work has been completed with the construction of a new temple and a new idol of the Lord. The Trust, under whose aid the kumbabishekam of Arulmigu Sri Varadharaja Perumal temple, Alangudi and Kothanda Ramar temple, Poovanur, were performed, has proposed to perform the consecrations of Arulmigu Dharmasamvardhini Ambal Udanurai Arulmugu Niruthiswarar temple and Sridevi Bhoodevi Samedha Sri Kariamanika Perumal temple at Pulavarnatham, on May 12 at 7.45 a.m. and 10.50 a.m. respectively. Festivities at both the temples begin from May 9 with Vigneswara puja at 6 p.m. Special homams, purnahuthi, four kala pujas, yatradanam and griha priti danam are some of the programmes to be held during the four-day festival.
