Many hues: Vir Das.

Many hues: Vir Das.

There are often many sides to one’s personality, and Vir Das is a man of many colours. He started as a comedian and is now into films, comedic writing and singing. “Delhi Belly” being the scorer for him, Das has now become a popular face in showbiz. Excerpts from an interview:

Being the Jack of all trades, you have proved that the best things come in small packages. Which sphere is topping your charts?

I think that one allows me to do the other; if I could I would want to have two careers. People coming to my comedy shows will come to my films and, hence, come to my concerts. It is all interconnected, closely knit.

You are going to make your singing debut in your latest flick “Amit Sahni ki List”. What other talents are you keeping from us?

Well, it is a new thing for me and I am really excited about it. I used to be a part of a band when I was in college and I am willing to start afresh. This song has been performed by me and my band Alien Chutney. It is an anti-love song, which is quite funny.

“Amit Sahni ki List” (on women) is already prepared. Does Vir Das have a similar list?

I am happy and content being in a relationship, so no list exists for me. My girlfriend is not from tinsel town, and I have kept my relationship under wraps.

Despite being blessed with good looks and a charming smile, was it ever difficult for you to make your audience smile?

Yes, absolutely! Good looks may steal a glance or two but at the end of the day you still have to be funny. Earlier my shows used to have audiences in hundreds but now it has multiplied to thousands. That cannot be achieved by just being a charmer.

“Delhi Belly” kick-started your career and now six films are due to release this year. Is there a craving for more?

There is a lot more that I need to do and achieve. I am just getting started. I consider myself a complete outsider in films, the Rock world, and in comedy too. I am still making space for myself here. And with God’s grace, my dreams will come true.
