Nutshell: Dance festival

Shree Vazhuvoor Classical Bharathanatya Arts Academy, Mylapore, is celebrating the 32nd Vazhuvoorar Dance and Music Festival from January 22 to 25 at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Main Hall, Mylapore. A. Krishnaswamy, president, Sabha Fraternity, inaugurates and presents “Vazhuvoorar Award” to Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. R. Natarajan, former DGP and Madipakkam S. Swaminathan (president, Kanchi Kamakoti Peeta Sangeetha Mummurthigal Seva Samithi) felicitate. This will be followed by a dance recital by the Academy's students.

Film Society's first meet

The first meeting of NT FAnS (Nadigar Thilagam Film Appreciation Society), an organisation dedicated almost exclusively to the films of Sivaji Ganesan, will be held on January 22, 4.15 p.m., at Sri YGP auditorium. The society, formed in October, 2011, with Y. Gee Mahendra as its president, plans to screen classic films of the legendary actor once in two months on a Sunday. The annual subscription is Rs. 750 for a couple (not necessarily spouse) and Rs. 500 for one person. It was 50 years ago, on Pongal day that the film ‘Parthal Pasi Theerum' was released. Special concert

In the series Kshetra Sangitam, Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam presents ‘Tiruchendur' on January 22, 6 p.m. at the Narada Gana Sabha. Dr. Sarada Nambi Arooran, eminent Tamil scholar and orator will speak on the subject followed by the rendition of songs by various composers on Tiruchendur. The vocalist will be accompanied by H.N. Bhaskar on the violin.
