Eleven students of Feet on Earth and Tatvamasi and their guru Mitha Vinay performed at Lamakaan, Banjara Hills, on Sunday. Though the evening’s performance began with the disciples putting together their act, the icing on the cake was Kathak Guru Mitha Vinay’s performance.

Mitha’s presentation of Gujarati Bhajan, Mara Ram Tame Sitaji ne tole na aao… moved the audience on the occasion of Mother’s Day. In this composition, the poet feels sorry that Lord Ram did not understand his wife Sita Devi and put her through ordeals. Being Mitha’s favourite subject, she she did justice to the character of Goddess Sita and beautifully portrayed the character and the poet’s anguish. She began her recital with a piece on Nataraja, beautifully choreographed by her gurus Murli Mohan and Nandini Mehta. For the benefit of students and their parents, the guru presented the Teen Taal, which was full of rhythm and vigorous footwork.

The evening began with the celebration of Lord Krishna’s leelas with Madhurashtakam in Raag Bhairavi and Bhajan Taal. The five dancers were in sync with the song leaving the audience with a feeling of Madhuram. The Teen Taal, popularly known as 16 beats, a technical piece was presented by a group of six students. The piece began with a Saraswati Vandana in Raag Jog. Mitha’s choreography ensured that the dancers used the stage beautifully and with perfection. Their spins and use of footwork was well-coordinated and the final freeze received thunderous applause.

The students concluded their performance with a Tarana. Dressed in red and black attire, the three dancers did justice to the medley. Mitha choreographed all the three dance pieces of the evening to bring out the best in her students and showcase them to enthusiastic parents. The chief guest of the evening Kathak dancer Sanjay Joshi applauded the efforts of the young learners. He and his wife Madhuri handed over certificates and a token gift to dancers Kavya, Navya, Roopa, Anusha, Mamta, Anushri, Aakarshan, Jagrati, Atreya, Mrisha and Sumedha.
