‘Andhra Natyam' an exclusive classical dance tradition brought to light through the unstinting efforts of Natyacharya Nataraja Ramakrishna who got his inspiration by studying dancing sculptures in ancient temples in Andhra Pradesh. Sarada Ramakrishna, one of the exponents of Andhra Natyam is one of the senior most disciples of Nataraja Ramakrishna, was honoured by Vijayawada Cultural Academy on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the Academy. The function took place in the premises of G.V.R. Government College of Music and Dance, Vijayawada.
Speaking on the occasion, senior journalist C. Raghavachari said that Sarada Ramakrishna is like a textbook for the learners of Andhra Natyam. Guests M.C. Das, A. Leela Umamaheshwara Rao, S.V. Ramamohana Rao, movie and stage actor Pilla Prasad, noted singer K. Surya Narayana and P. Brahmananda Rao also spoke, praising Sarada Ramakrishna's service in propagating the ancient dance tradition. Following the function M. Surendra, Kranti Narayan, Sumalathaswathi, Venkat and Siva performed some Kuchipudi dance numbers attractively. The dancers were directed by Natyacharya Muramalla Surendranath of Hyderabad. The entire function was conducted by Academy President A. Venkata Ratnam and honorary President A.V. Ratnam.
