Nrithya Bharatham, an interactive dance festival, is being organised by the South Zone Cultural Centre, Government of India, and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai, between September 17 and 23, at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore.

School and college students are invited to participate in the festival as observers along with those training under senior performing artists. Registration is free. The registered students will get a Special Observer Certificate from the South Zone Cultural Centre.

The fest will be inaugurated on September 17, 6.30 p.m., by the former Governor of Orissa, M.M. Rajendran. This will be followed by ‘Bharathiyin Navarasam,’ a lec-dem by Balagurunathan and Gayatri.

On September 18, 6.30 p.m., Gopika Varma and students offer ‘Mohiniyattom – A Special Presentation.’

On September 21, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., ‘Conglomeration’ featuring students of senior Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattom artists, will be presented.

The events on September 22, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be dedicated to Kuchipudi maestro Vempati Chinna Sathyam. ‘Conglomeration’ will be presented by Madhavapeddi Murthy, Kuchipudi exponent. Homage to Vempatti Chinna Sathyam is at 6 p.m. that evening at the mini hall.

On September 23, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., ‘Fusion - Triveni Sangamam,’ which will be inaugurated by the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Dr. K. Rosaiah, at 11 a.m., will see three artists showcasing three genres of classical dance. At 6 p.m., a quiz on classical dance will be conducted, after which, certificates will be given away to participants and observers.
