The monthly schedule of Sakala Kalakarula Samakhya featured a variety show at VUDA Children Theatre last Saturday. Lighting of the lamp followed by rendering of invocation song evocatively by young Navya marked the beginning. The programme started with the cine sangeetha vibhavari presented by members of Millenium Orchestra — Hazarat, Sailaja, Chandu, Ramanamurty, Panigrahi and Govind. They rendered songs from old and new feature films. Conducted by S. Sekhar and V.M. Reddy, it had Srinivas on keyboard, Sekhar on guitar, Satish on pads, N. Kumar and Babji on jaj, Gouri on congodrums, Yellajee and Govind on tabla. None of them including the singers was wanting but their talent got distorted in the unbearable decibels at which the sound amplification system was operated.
Then came amusingly the most delightful part, dances, Ganapathi Sthuthi, Swagatha nrityam and Annamayya's Muddugare yasoda by young sprightly looking girls Srujana, Swathi, Jahnavi, Iswarya, Padmini, Kavya, Bhagyasri and Tejasri, choreographed and directed by teacher K.V. Lakshmi of Nataraj Music and Dance Academy established by Vikram Goud.
The cynosure of the evening was the magic thrillingly presented with professional finesse by K. Ravi Sankar of Choo Mantar fame. Interspersed in between were the none-too effective jokes rendered by K. Ranga Rao and comedy skits including two instances of comedy of manners by V. Bhaskarachari, G.V. Trinadh, Ch. Raju, Murali and M. Rama.
