Shakti Mohan is the proud winner of 'Dance India Dance'

After 18 weeks of intense competition, brickbats and bouquets, it was finally curtains down for the second season of Dance India Dance, Zee TV's reality talent hunt. In an intense, nerve-racking finish involving the best four dancers ? Dharmesh, Punit, Shakti and Binny ? Shakti Mohan was voted the winner while Dharmesh came home second. The unassuming and low key Shakti was a worthy winner where the spotlight was often on participants who failed to make it to the top.

Giving credit to her mentor Terence Lewis and her parents for her win Shakti said, ?It was Terence's hard work which has brought me here, and my parents were always there, they supported me very much. In fact my mother was present at all my practice sessions to provide me with the much needed moral support. I would like to thank them.? Incidentally Shakti was also voted the ?Khubsoorat Star of The Day' as many as six times during the show which speaks of her performance.

Farah impressed

The grand finale which took place in the Andheri Sports Club, Mumbai this past week was anchored by Jay Bhanushali and Saumya Tandon with Ranbir Kapoor and Farah Khan among the celebrity guests. Farha Khan, impressed by Shakti's performance, promised to give the winner an opportunity to perform for the promos of her forthcoming film Tees Maar Khan.

Speaking on the occasion Shakti's mentor Terence said, ?This victory is not just for me or Shakti, this victory is for those who write their destiny by hard work and dedication. It is a well deserved victory for Shakti and now I can say that India has reached a stage where girls are outperforming the boys.? He went on to say that after watching Dance India Dance, parents will not pressurise their children to become only doctors or engineers, now they will allow them to take up dancing also as a career.

On the occasion, the Kathak maestro, Pandit Birju Maharaj, presented the ?sunehri taqdeer ki topi' to the winner. Besides, Shakti was also bestowed with a contract of Rs.50 lakhs by Zee TV and presented a Wagon-R car. After the award presentation, an emotional Shakti said, ?I still remember the day when I lined up for the whole day for the auditions and it has been a tough and fruitful journey for me. Now, I will seek Terence's advice for the future and also get training for international competitions?.
