The curtain-raiser for a four-day Sangeetha-saraswathy Sree V. Dakshinamoorthy Nrutha Sangeetholsavam was a mesmerising vocal concert by Bangalore Brothers – Hariharan and Ashok. The singers, who were in sync on account of their stringent sadhana, expertly portrayed the ragabhava of the compositions they rendered.
A Dhyana sloka was followed by a rare gana ragamalika varnam in Natta, Gowla, Arabhi, Varali and Sree. Swati’s ‘Paripahi Ganadhipa’ in Saveri was enhanced with swara segments. A rare mangala ragamalika of Dikshitar’s ‘Simhasana-sthithe’ in Saurasthra, Vasanta, Surutti and Madhyamavathi was a treat to music buffs. The composition was embellished with jathis.
Swati’s Navarathri kriti in Shuddhasaveri was a prelude to the highlight of the concert – a comprehensive rendition of Bhairavi. A soulful presentation of Dikshitar’s ‘Balagopala’ captured the beauty of the chouka kala piece. Aneesh Vasudevan’s tani had intricate laya patterns. The brothers also rendered ‘Krishnaya Vasudevaya’, ‘Enna thavam’, ‘Kelo saccharitha’ and Swati’s emotive padam, ‘Poonthen ner mozhi’. The duo concluded with a rhythmic Thiruppugazh and a mangalam. The brothers, both mridangam exponents, were able to maintain a lively tempo throughout the concert with the able support of Tripunithura Mahesh (violin) and Aneesh (mridangam).
Athulya Rakesh and Pavithra Venugopal, disciples of Vinitha Nedungadi, took centre stage on the second day.
The main piece for the evening was Tagore’s ‘Geethanjali’, which has been beautifully choreographed by Vinitha. G.K. Prakasan and G.V. Ramanadhan regaled devotees with their scintillating Sampradaya bhajan on the third day.
The final day of the fete was marked by a nadarchana by the students and teachers of Darsan School of Music, Palakkad. The fete was organised by Swathy Sangeetha Sabha, Palakkad, at Old Kalpathy Lakshminarayanaswamy Temple.
