Cultural feast

The Iyal Isai Nataka Manram is conducting a five-day cultural festival that opens on February 20, 6 p.m. at the Dr. Rukmini Devi Arundale Auditorium of the Manram (9176655454) located inside ‘Ponni’ on Kumarasamy Salai, R.A. Puram. The Minister for Education and Sport N.R. Sivapathi will preside over the inaugural function. A feast of folk and classical fare awaits lovers of art.

Inauguration ceremony will be followed by Iluppai S. Anandan’s nagaswaram, Vidisha’s Bharatanatyam and Subbu Arumugam’s Villuppattu. Programmes on subsequent evenings (6 p.m.) include Sankaradas Swamigal’s musical drama ‘Veera Abhimanyu’ presented by Dindigal Murugappa’s troupe (Feb 21), Revathy Krishna’s veena and Bommalaattam by T.N. Sankaranathan (Feb 22), vocal recital of V. Deepika and Draudpadi Vastrapaharanam, therukoothu by Gundaiyarthandalam Dakshinamurti (Feb. 23) and Kuchipudi of Madhavapedda Murti, Gopika Varma’s Mohiniyattom and Bharatanatyam show by Radhika Shurajit’s troupe (Feb. 24).
