The renovation work at Arulmigu Anandhavalli Ambal Samedha Chandrasekarar temple, Umbalappadi, Thanjavur district.

Located in Umbalappadi village, enroute Kapisthalam, Papanasam, Thanjavur district, Arulmigu Anandavalli Ambal Samedha Chandrasekarar temple, is believed to have been constructed 900 years ago, during the reign of Kulothunga Chola I (1070-1120 A.D.) Inscriptions show the name of the village as Umbalappadi even before the period of Rajaraja Chola. It is believed that the deity was earlier called ‘Nilavanai Mahadevar’ and during the reign of the Cholas the Tamil name was changed to ‘Chandrasekarar’ (the Sanskrit equivalent). This ancient temple has been lying in a state of disrepair. To restore the lost glory Umbalapadi Sri Mahadevar Trust has undertaken the renovation work and has proposed to conduct the consecration between June and July this year. Contributions are solicited for the same.
