Last year he made three films. This year two of his films have already been released, one is in post-production and another is releasing this weekend. Meanwhile he has also found the time to act and has also made a plethora of ads for some of the country’s biggest brands. That’s filmmaker V. K. Prakash, popularly known as VKP, for you. Silence is a “family thriller”.
Mammootty plays a Bangalore-based lawyer, Arvind Chandrasekhar, who gets elevated to judgeship. But before he can take up his post, he faces an issue and sets out to solve it.
Pallavi Chandran, who has been part of several popular Hindi TV serials, plays his wife. Anoop Menon dons the role of a cop. P. Balachandran, Joy Mathew, Prakash Bare, Basil and Aparna Nair are also part of the cast.
Going by the little that the director reveals about the film, Silence too seems to have VKP’s signature experimental narrative. In fact, ‘experiment’ is the one word that frequently pops up during the conversation. “If you want to experiment, you have to be willing to accept criticism. On the flip side though, going out on a limb for your films gives you immense satisfaction. Even if such experiments fail at the box office, they will kick off discussions. And that is my objective. Take for instance, Thank You , one of my films released earlier in the year. It discussed the topical issue of child abuse, much before others started following the plot,” says the director.
VKP has also completed Mazhaneerthullikal , which could be his next release. Meanwhile, he is gung ho about making his presence felt as an actor. After doing the role of a priest in Deepesh T.’s Pithavinum Puthranum , he will play the role of legendary humorist Sanjayan in the forthcoming film Vidooshakan by T.K. Santosh.
