Noted veena exponent Ayyagari Satya Prasad presented an impressive concert under the aegis of Visakha Music Academy at Kalabhrati, Visakhapatnam. It was, in a way, a session of soft melody. With fairly good grip over the intricacies of the instrument, he tapped its inherent melodic shades well. His raga presentation was quite pleasing and its improvisations remarkable. He seemed to be enjoying his music and rendered the chosen compositions in a meditative mood. Ayyagari Rajyalakshmi on veena complemented the rendition well.

He began the concert with Navaragamalika varnam and proceeded to present Saranu Siddhi Vinayaka of Purandardas in raga Nata that set the tempo for the session. Then he came out with Manavi aalakimparada of Thyagaraja in raga Nalinakanthi. A short but well rendered aalapana ushered in the kriti with grace making it enjoyable. His deliberation on Aarabhi was detailed touching upon all its salient aspects. The kriti for this was Sri Saraswathi of Muttuswamy Deekshitar. He did a brief yet pleasing tanam and swarakalpana that furthered its appeal well. He seemed to have a passion of raga essays and attempted to present raga bhava even in a concise measure. It, in a way, paved the way for remarkable launch of the mainstay of the concert and he took up raga Hemavathi for this. The kriti for this was Srikanthimathim of Deekshitar. Besides elaborate raga alapana that detailed the various charming aspects of it, tanamalika consisting ragas Janasammodini, Bhagesree, Hamsanadam, Ranjani and Sivaranjani was praiseworthy. He rendered its beautiful phrases with ease and finesse.

Prior to fast-tempo piece Raghuvamsa Sudhambhudi of Patnam Subramania Iyer in Kadanakutuhalam, he rendered Bhajare manasa of Mysore Vasudevachari in raga Karanatakadevagandhari. Pithy aalapana and swarakalpana brought out its devotional fervour well.

Post tani round, he chose Aadenu Meera in raga Sindhubhairavi, Kantisukravaramu of Annamayya in raga Anandabhairavi and rounded it off with a Tillana in raga Revathi.

K. Yogish on mrigangam and S Hanumantharao on ghatam were at their best. The academy hosted the programme as part of its monthly schedule.
