Any form of art can never take its true shape until it voices the inner feelings of the artist with depth. In Bangalore-based artist Seema Sathyu’s latest works — on show in New Delhi till this past Wednesday, the inner voice mingled freely with taranas, Sufiana poetry, verses and musical notes.
The six-day exhibition held at Zaza Stay, showcased more than 40 works of the artist. Seema used nature as an idiom to delve into the vast world within her. “I have tried to unravel the intangible and the unseen world through my works,” she said.
The use of seemingly unreal and chalky colours against the grandeur of silver and gold glorified the symbolic pathways, doors, and windows that tried one to lead beyond the mundane. With the usage of aquarelle pencils, inks, pens and acrylic paints, Seema mesmerised viewers by making them travel into a world where the various elements of nature amalgamated forming a layer within a layer.
Taking inspiration from Amir Khusrau’s work and Kabir’s riddles, she beautifully crafted their majestic words on to her canvas and thereby giving them a new lease of life.
While some of the works were seen fighting ice with fire, others would lead you to mountains, merging the pathways of river and land. Sometimes, the land connected with the sky before merging beautifully in the holy water which in turn led to a cave, leaving the viewers to decipher the message on their own.
“The idea is to find a link between poetry and music, even with architecture, body and soul and the physical world,” said Seema.
