The light pleasant showers on Saturday were a welcome sign as a group of people watched the Hussain Sagar in full spate. Sometimes serene and sometimes turbulent, the lake, captured in all its pristine glory is a delight.
“Can you identify that place?” Suheim Sheikh asks us, pointing towards a picture. It is the photograph of a group of women walking with pots filled with water on their heads, with a lake in the background.
“It is the view of Husain Sagar. Can you believe it?” he replies with a cheerful smile.
The photograph is part of ‘Monsoon Regatta Waterscapes' an art exhibition-cum-sale at Muse Art Gallery in Hotel Marriott.
The other interesting feature of the exhibition is that the display has photographs of Late Raja Deen Dayal and Shashi Raghunandan's Sailboats and Waterscapes done in water colours and M. Vittal's Aqua . A special section by historian and collector Safiullah Khan with rare and ancient photographs are also there.
The founder president of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad, Suheim is witness to Husain Sagar's transformation from a pristine historical lake to a polluted water body.
“We are searching for water on Mars, and we have such a beautiful lake right here in Hyderabad but we want to get rid of it. The exhibition is an attempt to create awareness of our precious water resources,” he says.
A self-taught artist, Shashi Raghunandanis a banker by profession and paints as a weekend passion.
“Working in watercolours suits me as I can paint only during the weekends. It dries off quickly and I don't have to spend much time,” he says.
The exhibition at Muse ends on July 10.
