The week-long painting exhibition by Nirvana, a group of promising young artists formed by artist Ather Jafri in the city turned out to be a great experience for the art-lovers. Jafri says, “My reasons for forming Nirvana stemmed from the constant lack of publicity for young and upcoming painters. The common people and even the art-lovers in India feel that it is only the old, experienced and senior artists that possess some mettle, which I feel, is not the case.”
The second exhibition of the group was based on the very name of the group and tried to bring out the importance of search for peace, comfort and positivity in the hectic lifestyle of the present times.
With every member of the group presenting three paintings, the AIFACS Art Gallery was gleaming with as many as 24 pieces of promising artists' works. Mostly done with oil and acrylic on canvas, these paintings tried to put forth the constant search for peace that today's society yearns for.
Different interpretations
Garima Jawal, one of the members of Nirvana, whose work was on show, says, “The one feature of this exhibition was its versatility. Even when all of us were working under one theme, everyone experimented to bring out his or her own possible interpretation of the theme of nirvana.”
It was not only their respective artworks that the got the members of Nirvana smiling, but even the widespread public participation also was a reason for them to cheer. Says Jafri, “The very first day saw about 200 people. This was surprising since this was way above the size of the crowd that we normally expect.”
