A novel show being hosted by a Bangalore-based gallery presents paintings by a master artist who brings alive the picturesque natural beauty of Mizoram, a land blessed by Nature. The paintings also showcase the culture, people and everyday life of this land about which not much is known about.

Lalbiaklara (or Lara as he is known) is an exciting artist from Mizoram who paints insightful and life-like landscapes, rural portraits and village scenes.

The exhibition hails the indomitable spirit of the sturdy inhabitants and brings to life the varied hues of Mizo tradition. The exhibition is replete with visuals of the Mizo way of life with traditional bamboo houses, portraits of women and their bonding.

Dolka Densapa, of North East Ventures who curated this show, says, “Bermiok: the Himlayan Project is a venture I have been developing to identify promising artists, designers and craftsmen from the North East to showcase their work in India and abroad. Lara’s works captivated me by their simple, yet in-depth, portrayal of the Mizo way of life. He has an interesting background, having painted portraits for numerous clients viz. some of our ex-presidents, heads of state and other prominent members of society. Lara has a deep passion for the northeast and loves the region and its myriad cultures. He started capturing rural life and the beautiful landscapes of the northeast in his unique style of painting. His experience of portraits has led to lifelike depictions of village life which are painted in lovely pastel colours. His paintings touch a cord that stills your mind in the beauty and simplicity of the northeast.”

Dolka has brought Lara’s works to the metro in a bid to introduce him to the art enthusiasts here.

“Lara’s work has received some critical acclaim in the exhibitions he has participated in earlier and he also has several overseas patrons. I’m keen that his work gets appreciation from increasing quarters within the country too; thus this effort’,” she signs off.

Bottomline: An artistic walk through an interesting culture
