Paen to women

ART The female form is the central premise of Stuthi, an exhibition of paintings by Manisha Raju

A fascination for the female form, especially the myriad forms of Goddess Durga, comes through in Cholamandal-based artist Manisha Raju's works. Titled 'Stuthi', the exhibition of paintings, will be on at Prakrit Arts, New No. 9, Old No. 4, Dhandayuthapani Nagar, 2nd Street, Kotturpuram, from September 24 to 29, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Subtle tonal variations mark Manisha's style. The human figure and its metaphysical existence comprise the core of her works. The forms are distinct with minimalist elements. Primary and Indian colours dominate. Rustic skin tones are characteristic of her paintings. Manisha depicts contemporary women but in forms of the goddess. Self-introspection is the basic premise of her works and most of her figures, therefore, are with eyes closed - as if interacting with the soul.

Photography

"Glimpses", an exhibition of photographs, opens today (till September 30) at Tangerine, 5, Murrays Gate Road, Alwarpet. The collection is an unusual interpretation of everyday life through the lens of Ramchand, who has studied visual communication, specialising in photography.
