Works of 27 artists from different parts of the country are brought together to make ‘First Edition’ a different show. The three day show curated by Shalini and Dia Bhupal is attractive with fresh works and ideas of the artists on display. Besides Indian artists, also on display is the work of a Korean artist.
What makes the show different from the regular run of the mill stuff which we see in the city is the idea and concepts itself. Artists have expressed themselves, their thoughts and the society they are surrounded with aptly with their works. While some works are very soft in the colour palette and create an illusion, some others are bold and bustling with thoughts.
Kim Seola’s work is the work of intricate thin brush strokes to create an image of individual petals being dispersed from a Dandelion. The work when looked at for a while appears furry, inviting one to touch. To create the effect, the artists used five different shades of the same colour on the petal-shaped figures.
Anirban Mitra on the other hand has a thoughtful message to deliver. This artist from Shantiniketan has made use of the farmville theme. An avid Farmville player himself, Anriban’s work questions the possibility of growing enough food for the mouths to feed.
Vivek Vilasini’s work comes with the tagline ‘you cannot, of course, believe all this.’ This artist from Kerala makes novel use of Kathakali artists as a prop. Vivek who is a photographer cleverly makes use of photos to create his canvases. His bright work captures the mocking expression of the artists well to create creates a dramatic story. Samanta Batra Mehta makes use of several techniques to create his canvas which involves inks, graphite, stencils etc.
Suave, chic and different is Valay Shende’s work. Through his work on metal he pays tribute to the people who make our everyday life better. In the form of self portrait is the work of Princess Pea who pays tribute to her looks by creating a figure that makes everyone stop by and look.
