Preparing for Svanubhava at Hrishri Vidya Mandir School.

Signboards show us the way; students greet us enthusiastically, bombarding us with questions, brimming with excitement …they can't wait for August 2, they say… “I want to see the Priya Sisters perform”, “ I can't wait to meet Rajiv Menon”; “Alarmel Valli and Madhvi Mudgal performing together”… on they go, after T.M. Krishna and Bombay Jayashri finish briefing them about the festival.

New associations

Svanubhava — a one-of-its-kind festival organised by Matrka in association with YACM (Youth Association for Classical Music) — is a festival exclusively for students of classical arts. This time it is being organised in association with five institutions: Kalakshetra, The Music Academy, Chettinad Harishri Vidyalayam, P.S.B.B. (K.K.Nagar) and Vidya Mandir (Mylapore), spread over six days (August 2-7).

The three schools, being first time hosts, have a strong set of volunteers gearing up for D-Day. Many of these students have been to Svanubhava in the past two years and know what it is all about. Their excitement as they get ready for this year is contagious. The bottom-line is that they have to match up to the zeal of students from premier institutions of art like Kalakshetra and The Music Academy. Here's what they have to say:

Chettinad Harishri Vidyalayam: Sahana Venugopal says, “Svanubhava is for everyone, not just for the music enthusiasts.” Vathsan Ramprakash of Std VII adds, “I can't begin to explain the efforts our school is putting in to make the festival a success.” Quips Anirudh Pennathur of Std VIII, “The art competition, posters and signs for directions and other decorations will make our school look elegant.”

Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, K.K.Nagar: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” smiles Sneha of Std IX. “We thoroughly enjoyed working for this. It was so much fun. We are looking forward to interacting with the great artistes,” say Sangeetha and Sri Nidhi of Stds IX and X respectively.

Vidya Mandir, Mylapore: Mahima of Std XI proudly proclaims, “We are very excited at the responsibility of hosting the programme on the final day. Members of various Clubs like the SPAM, Art club and Math club are working together for this. Nayanthara of Std XII is excited. “We can't wait to see the maestros perform.” “Students' involvement and enthusiasm, from making sign boards and drop boxes to decorating the place, will make the event a success,” feel Vignesh and Shyam of Std X and IX respectively.

As these schools get ready, other schools and institutions come together by bringing their students every day. The event is completely for the students, by the students. are welcome to participate and be a part of this festival.
