An Inner Call For Liberation: Kaivalya

Gita Krishna Raj

“If Karma is the child of deterministic laws, Dharma is the power of freewill. They are the two sides of a common balance,” writes the author at the end of Chapter 1, where she talks about making choices and taking responsibility for our actions.

Those words, in a way, set the tone for this slim volume which is a reflection of Gita’s several life-altering experiences, with the backdrop of the scriptures.

While the book examines popular anecdotes and incidents from our texts, it also looks beyond the incidents and delves into the psyche of the doer. And here, Gita uses the tool of poetry to telling effect

. Like in Kaikeyi’s lament, she writes,

“O Rama!

If only you had pointed out my mistake,

Shown me my faults, my path of error,

I wouldn’t need to stand now burdened in shame…”

Such verses (Gita refers to them ‘The unknown dialogue’) done in a lucid style with insightful repartees, make for interesting read.

Gita has chosen characters such as Kannagi-Madhavi, Drona-Ekalavya, Krishna-Yudhistra and Krishna Draupadi to illustrate her philosophy.

Dancer, director, writer and business woman, Gita is also a holistic lifestyle coach and conducts workshops on holistic wellness.
