Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) today said it was not satisfied with Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal’s clarification on the IIT entrance examination, alleging the ministry could use the IIT Council as a tool to impose its decisions.

“The Minister says the eligibility criteria to appear in the joint entrance exam is decided by the IIT Council. But who would preside over the Council ? Who would constitute the members for the panel ?” asked JMM’s Rajya Sabha member Hemant Soren at a press conference here.

“If the HRD Minister himself presides over it, then the Council will be bound to listen to the Minister’s suggestions,” Mr. Soren said demanding more clarity in the minister’s statement.

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal had yesterday clarified that the eligibility criteria to appear in the JEE would be decided by the IITs themselves.

“We will raise it in the winter session of Parliament as the future of lakhs of students from Jharkhand is at stake. Most students from the hinterland are shy in nature, and will be easy fodder for elimination from higher studies,” said Mr. Soren.
