Talented artists who are waiting for that crucial international exposure to reach out to a wider audience, may find just that through the “ABS Chennai Artists’ Travel Grant 2013”.

The grant offered by the Association of British Scholars, includes return air-fare and a stipend to take care of stay and living expenses during the period of their course or work in the U.K. It is open to those who possess a bachelors or master’s degree in fine arts with exceptional demonstrated skill in painting, sculpture, print making, photography, computer graphic, textile designing, animation and film making. They must have at least three individual or group shows to their credit prior to applying for the grant.

Several artists including renowned artist Mr A. V. Ilango, who is also the President of the ABS Chennai Chapter, have benefited greatly from the scholarship. “There is a huge wealth of talented artists in South India. Very often, they are unable to find the means to showcase their talent abroad. Even one programme or training or show through support such as this, will help them take a huge stride forward in their professional life giving art a boost” says Mr. Ilango.

The selection will be made by an independent jury. Applications may be sent to: “Ilango’s Artspace”, Sir Mutha Venkatasubbarao Concert Building, Lady Andal School, No. 7 Harrington Road, Chennai-600 031. Email: Chennai.abs@gmail.com. The Association of British Scholars is a voluntary, not-for-profit association comprising those who have studied or trained in the U.K. at some time and returned to Chennai.
