‘Thirukkural Elocution Contest 2012’

: Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam, the literary wing of Shriram group, will be organising Thirukkural Elocution Contest 2012, the annual State level elocution competition in August, for school and college students.

Preliminary rounds

The preliminary rounds of the contest will begin on August 4 in Chennai at Dr. MGR-Janaki College for Women.

With the view of reaching out to students in other cities, the preliminary rounds will also be held at Vellore on August 5; Coimbatore on August 11; Salem on August 12; Nellai on August 18; Madurai on August 19; Trichy on August 25 and Puducherry on August 26. The finals will be held on September 29 and 30 in Chennai.

The contestants will be divided into four groups – Juniors (Classes: six to eight), Seniors (Classes: nine and 10), Super Seniors (Classes 11 and 12) and College (UG, PG, Engineering, Medical and Polytechnic students).

Each institution can send only two entries from each class. Polytechnics can send four students.

Topics

Each contestant can speak for five minutes on any of the topics mentioned below:

Junior Level: ‘Mazhithalum Neettalum Venda’ (280) or ‘ Poyyaamai Anna Pugazh Illai’ (296) or ‘ Nunangiya Kelviyar Allaar’ (419)

Senior Level: ‘ Sinathin Pagayum Ulavo Pira’ (304) or ‘ Elladha Enni Cheyal Vendum’ (470) or ‘ Theyivathodu Oppa Kolal’ (702)

Super Senior Level: ‘Arathirke Anbusarbu Enba Ariyar’ (76) or ‘Kallaar Kan Patta Thiru’ (408) or ‘ Serunarai Kaanin Sumakka’ (488)

College Level: ‘Unnaamai Vendum’ (257) or ‘Than Valiyum Maatraan Valiyum’ (471) or ‘Pirivu Oor Idatthu Unmaiyaan’ (1153)

The competition will be conducted in three rounds: preliminary, semi-final and final. The preliminary round and semi-finals will be held on the same day.

Awards

Winners in each group will be given a cash award of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 5,000 as first, second and third prize, respectively.

The first prize winners (school/college) will be presented with a shield. All participants will receive certificate of participation.
