The Common Entrance Test (CET) is the gateway to top engineering and medical colleges in Karnataka. Every year, lakhs of students of the science stream across Karnataka as well as those from other States who want to study in Karnataka take up this challenging exam. Months of rigorous training goes in before the students take up the exam. Most students attend various coaching classes and crash courses to prepare themselves for the ordeal.

Now that the CET has been postponed by almost two weeks due to the leakage of II PUC question papers which led to the postponement of the exams and the evaluation boycott by lecturers, the students are in a fix. Instead of May 3 and 4, the CET is to be held on May 21, 22 and 23.

Students of II PUC were asked how the postponement of CET has affected them in the preparation for other entrance exams they are taking up and whether coaching centres are conducting extra classes. This is what they said:

Yashaswini S., PCME, Sri Kumarans PU College

Until we got to know that the exams were postponed, we had very tightly scheduled classes for CET in my coaching centre. But when the news came out that the exams have been postponed, the classes are being held in a much more relaxed manner. I am also taking up COMED-K and AIEEE. The dates of the three exams don't clash and there is enough time for preparations. But it is very tiring to study the same portions again and again. I hope the board does not postpone it further. There was a lot of tension created during the Pre-University board exams. I hope the same does not happen during CET.

Sharada Adiga M.,PCMB,Shri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College, Jayanagar

I am very happy that the CET exams got postponed. I now have more time to concentrate on and prepare well for the exams. Though I'm also writing COMED-K and AIEEE, I am planning to get into the medical field and for that, CET ranking is very important as PU marks are not considered. I have to solely depend on CET; therefore it is good that they have postponed the exam. Though my coaching classes are over I can go and ask the teachers in my coaching classes if I have any doubts. My college is conducting special classes for CET and I am attending them.

Keerthi K.,PCME,Christ Junior College

It is good that they have postponed the dates for CET or else it would be very troublesome as there would be little gap between entrance exams. I am also writing COMED-K and ISAT. Both the exams will get over by the first week of May and I will have a good amount of time to study for CET. Since the exam got postponed my coaching centre has increased the number of classes for CET coaching.

Mythri R., PCME, National College, Jayanagar

I am writing only CET, so it is good that they have postponed it. I have more time to study. The exams will start only after the board results come out.

If I have not done very well, I will study and work hard to get a very good rank in CET. My coaching centre is conducting rigorous revision classes and I am finding it to be very helpful. A good CET ranking will help me to get a seat in a good engineering college.

Chinmayi K., PCMB, Vijaya Composite College

CET exams being postponed is not a problem for me. I am also appearing for COMED-K which will be over soon, so there will be more time for me to relax and study for the CET.

My coaching centre will be conducting CET classes till April-end and after that I can sit at home and study for both the exams.

Since we will probably be the last batch to write the CET, as the national entrance tests are likely to be implemented next year, I hope this time the CET exams will be easy. I want to take up engineering next, so a good CET ranking is very important for me. I hope no other changes regarding the exam takes place.
